Shelled and unshelled hazelnuts are available all the year round.
Cut & clean
Shelled hazelnuts can be eaten whole, chopped, or finely milled. Briefly roast shelled
hazelnuts and rub with a towel while still warm to remove skins.
Go nuts
Raw or roasted, chopped hazelnuts add something special in or sprinkled on casseroles,
vegetable side dishes, and salads. And don’t
forget the desserts! Mix into the batter or top your
favourite puddings (especially anything chocolate)
and party biscuits.
Shelled hazelnuts can be eaten whole, chopped, or finely milled. They can be added to cookies, cakes, and other desserts, or used in salads or to make a savoury butter to flavour entrees and side dishes. Like many nuts, roasting hazelnut brings out their flavour. After roasting, hazelnuts should be rubbed in a cloth while still hot to remove their skins.
There are more than 100 varieties of hazel trees, which are related to birch trees. Certain varieties of hazelnuts are called filberts, which are slightly larger than other hazelnuts.
